Course Overview
So often companies spend the time and money to train line staff, but neglect putting the time needed to develop supervisory and management skills, even though these are the skills that drive growth. Effective managers are known to decrease turnover, increase engagement, and increase employee satisfaction and these can lead to increased productivity and reduced costs.
To help address this need, Effectiveness Consultants has developed this skill building workshop presented in one of two formats (6 weekly 2 hours sessions or over the course of two days) targeting both new and experienced supervisors and managers. In each of these highly engaging weekly workshops participants will be introduced to specific skills and through a blend of interactive discussion and presentations will leave prepared to return to their workplaces with actionable skills to make them more effective in their roles. These skills focus on self-efficacy, employee engagement, accountability, and motivation.
One question that confounds many business owners is how to accomplish this all in a manageable way and not lose productivity in other areas of their business. Together, we will answer that using tools like our Social Marketing Editorial Calendar and Impression Network Value Tracker. Once put in practice, these tools will allow you to manage the marketing commitments, evaluate the success of your campaigns and know where and how you can improve.
Eric Zackrison, has been a manager and entrepreneur for over 22 years, a university instructor for 8 years (teaching public speaking, small group communication, communication theory, interviewing, organizational communication, and leadership skills), has run leadership and manager skills workshops for companies as varied as Jordanos Foodservice, UCSB, and Cottage Health among others. About the Course
We cover 5 primary skills and then leave some time to work with the specific needs of course participants. Topics include:
Know yourself- know your team. With a better idea of you are and of who your team is you will have some skills to adapt your behavioral style to the situation and to the people with which you interact in ways that make you more effective and more satisfied.
Giving Effective Feedback. We examine why we sometimes have a hard time giving effective feedback and some ways that we can increase the effectiveness of our feedback in way that increases commitment from others. You will leave this session having worked through a specific feedback scenario and be ready to put it into practice.
Delegation for Success. We recognize that there are a variety of reasons that we need to delegate, not least of which is our own sanity. You will leave this session with an understanding of when and how to delegate and a plan for delegating at least one task that will free you up to concentrate on something vital to you.
Building a Supportive Climate. For our teams to reach their full potential we need them to feel supported. A supportive climate leads to reduced turn-over, more open communication, and increased motivation. This week we will focus on being an effective listener as well as a supportive communicator and you will leave having practiced these skills and some clear guidelines for continued improvement.
Coaching and Dealing with Difficult People. No matter how well we do the things we have learned in the other sessions we are likely to occasionally be faced with difficult people. These can be employees, co-workers, or clients. Regardless of why or who, the skills learned today will help you turn these situations around and you will leave with an action plan for dealing with a specific issue.
